Star Trek: The Next Generation

Banger of a season. Darmok, Ensign Ro, Violations, Ethics, The Outcast, The First Duty, The Perfect Mate, The Inner Light all feel like episodes that only this show could do, rooted in these characters, emotional and beautiful.

The Perfect Mate, in particular, strikes me because it’s quite similar in concept to a movie that came much later which I also quite liked, called I’m Your Man. But they did it way first.

They’ve learned by this point that the best stuff comes when you put Picard through the wringer.

There’s also some others like The Game, A Matter of Time, The Masterpiece Society, Cause and Effect, I, Borg, The Next Phase which feel like classic nerdy sci-fi that’s perhaps a little more generic but smart and well done.

And there’s a special Nimoy two-parter which I almost forgot about!
