I loved it.

Contrasting Picard with Kirk is endlessly fascinating. He’s also a heroic type and not so different, but he is older and less impulsive and less inclined to seduce or punch his way out of problems.

Contrasting Data with Spock is also fascinating. Both feel like obvious breakout characters and I love them both.

Seeing the Klingons embraced by the federation is moving and cool. It may be a utopia but it has to work to become more perfect. Ditto the better representation for women throughout the season.

Riker is sort of a blank in a way. His whole thing is largely that he thinks Picard is cool. But to be fair, Picard is cool.

LaForge is great, and his spotlight when he temporarily takes command was a stirring highlight. Geordi LaForge is a slightly goofy name.
